Let it Simmer

Like most writers there are times I find it hard to put down on paper what I’m thinking. A sentence is clunky or I can’t find the right words to express what I’m trying to convey to my readers. I re-write and re-write but the words just don’t flow. That’s when I decide to let it simmer.

I move onto to another passage, or another writing project. Many times I step away from the computer and perform some mundane task like folding clothes or weeding the garden. Invariably while my thoughts are on something else the word or phrase I’ve been searching for comes to me and my words begin to flow again.
