One of the things I’m doing more and more—and loving it!—is repurposing my content.
It’s great fun to take an idea and create an article out of it. Then, to think of other ways to use it.
Recently, I decided I would expand the content of one of my articles into a teleseminar. I would expand each of the 7 common and costly mistakes almost all authors make into a full-blown, hour-long lesson. The study guide for the teleseminar could be created from the article as well.
I knew I would have to publicize the teleseminar somehow, so from the article I also created a press release.
(I even turned that whole process into my “article of the week” for my subscribers. If you haven’t already done so, you can read the step-by-step process I used.)
The same content could be turned into a mini-course for when people join my list. I plan to do that.
I can also change the content slightly and create a Special Report to sell.
I can also chop it up and use it for blog content. (In that way, I can also solicit feedback via comments.)
I can take each of the 7 points, make an article out of each of those, and submit to online ezines.
All that, from one article! Call it leveraging. Call it repurposing, or multi-purposing. Call it what you will—it’s a lot of fun, it saves me time, and as long as it’s information people want, it will serve others and myself well.
If you’re a writer, you can certainly do this. If you’re a business person, you can do this with your content and marketing materials. If you’re a designer, you can do it too, I suspect. Surely there are successful designs that could become templates that you can tweak and refashion to suit your clients.
If this idea is new to you, play with it. It will save you lots of time and energy. To me, it’s as valid a form of creativity as coming up with something from scratch.
